SENATE RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A LANGUAGE HALL
AT
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT DALLAS
WHEREAS several language courses per semester at the University of Texas at Dallas have been cancelled due to low-enrollment; AND
WHEREAS competitive post-undergraduate institutions highly recommend and seek students with foreign language proficiency; AND
WHEREAS many professions recommend knowledge in more than a single language; AND
WHEREAS students have been seeking language instruction at other institutions; AND
WHEREAS many campuses have a centralized location for language instruction; AND
WHEREAS a language center would facilitate both awareness and interest in foreign language instruction and increase enrollment; AND
WHEREAS Dean of Arts and Humanities Dennis Krat’z resolution for a language hall submitted by Dean Kratz as part of a budget proposal has already been accepted; AND
WHEREAS said resolution calls for changes that include the conversion of the east wing of the third floor of Jonsson into a centralized language center with two large classrooms as well as the language offices and a computer lab for language study; AND
WHEREAS other institutions experience high enrollment within their language programs due to similar language halls;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Student Senate of The University of Texas at Dallas that Student Government supports the establishment of a language hall as dictated by Dean Kratz in his budget proposal.
