SR 2008 - 005
SENATE RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LOWER
MEAL PLAN PRICES FOR THE NEW DINING HALL
WHEREAS the walk-in cash prices proposed for the new dining hall are $6.50 for breakfast, $7.50 for lunch, and $8.50 for dinner or brunch; AND
WHEREAS the average price one would pay in cash for a meal at the dining hall is $7.50; AND
WHEREAS three of the six currently proposed meal plans (specifically the meal block plans) cost more than $7.50 per meal; AND
WHEREAS all freshmen living in the residence hall and in on-campus apartments will be required to purchase meal plans; AND
WHEREAS it is unfair to charge students more than walk-in cash prices for a meal plan they are required to purchase, especially if they are unaware that the latter is more expensive; AND
WHEREAS promotional materials and the website for the meal plans group each meal block plan and the meals per week plan of the same price together without acknowledging the difference in cost per meal; AND
WHEREAS students may not realize the difference in cost per meal for those plans when deciding between them;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Student Senate of The University of Texas at Dallas that Student Government supports lowering the prices of the three meal block plans to less than $7.50 per meal; AND
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Student Government supports printing the cost per meal for each meal plan on all promotional materials and on the website.
