Grades 4 to 8All students seeking certification must be advised in the Teacher Development Center. Undergraduate students must first meet with an academic advisor before being advised in the Teacher Development Center. Post baccalaureate students must have previous coursework evaluated by a certification advisor to be sure they fulfill the content curriculum requirements. Students who wish to teach grades 4-8 may choose 4-8 Generalist or a specialized field. They may be enrolled in Interdisciplinary Studies or in the school of their major.
Basic certification courses for Grades 4-8 Generalist are listed below. Course requirements will differ for 4-8 subject specific certifications. The certification advisor will determine each student's specific requirements according to educational background and certification field.
Offficial admission to the program is required before the following courses may be taken. Admission requirements to the program are detailed under the link "Program Admission."
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION COURSES Students in 4-8 specific teaching fields will complete 20 hours early field experience in their specific C&I class. Generalist 4-8 students are required to take each of the four C & I classes but completion of 20 hours field experience will be waived because they will complete this requirement in Classroom Management.
