Certification Areas
 

Grades EC- 6

All students seeking certification must be advised in the Teacher Development Center.

Undergraduate students must first meet with an academic advisor before being advised in the Teacher Development Center. Post baccalaureate students must have previous coursework evaluated by a certification advisor to be sure they fulfill the content curriculum requirement of:

  • 12 hours English
  • 12 hours science
  • 12 hours social studies
  •   9 hours math

Basic courses for Grades EC - 6 are listed below. The certification advisor will determine each student's specific requirements.

  • ED 3314 - AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOL
    (20 hours early field experience required in course.)
  • PSY/ED 3339 - EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
  • ED 4352 - READING I (Prerequisite for ED 4357)
  • ED 4357 - DIAGNOSTIC READING
  • ED 3345 - ART, MUSIC & PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
  • PSY 3342 - EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN
  • LIT/ED 3315 - CHILDREN'S LITERATURE
  • ED3340 or MATH 3301 - MATH CONCEPTS FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS

Offficial admission to the program is required before the following courses may be taken. Admission requirements to the program are detailed under the link "Program Admission."

  • ED 3342 - CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT GRADES EC-6
    (20 hours early field experience required in course.)
  • ED 4363 - READING II/ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS READING METHODS
  • ED 4343 - SCIENCE METHODS
  • ED 4344 - MATHEMATICS METHODS
  • ED 4345 - SOCIAL STUDIES METHODS
  • ED 4693 - STUDENT TEACHING (12 weeks full days)
