WELCOME TO THE UTD TEACHER DEVELOPMENT CENTER !
The Teacher Development Center serves all the academic schools at UT Dallas. An undergraduate student from any academic area who plans her/his course schedule carefully can complete both an academic degree and teacher certification in a timely manner – usually within 120 hours. Students who already have bachelor's or graduate degrees can take courses to earn teacher certification. The staff and highly qualified senior lecturers associated with the TDC have the academic and career credentials needed to give UTD students rigorous, university-based course work as well as extensive practical field experience. Our mission is to serve UTD students who are interested in making teaching and/or school administration their career, not their temporary employment. Texas deserves great schools and great teachers. We are proud supporters of a strong system of public schools in Texas because we believe they are the foundation for America’s way of life and true democracy. Good teachers help prepare their students for success in life. Research has shown that the most significant predictor of college success is the quality and intensity of the high school curriculum. Excellent teachers bring meaning to that content. Research shows that teachers ranked in the top third of the teaching profession produced six times the achievement gains in their students compared with teachers ranked in the bottom third – irrespective of student academic standing or diversity. UTD’s goal is to prepare teachers who will rank in the top thirty-three percent! We welcome to our program all students who are willing to study diligently and participate in field experiences. We look forward to preparing these students for a wonderful career in teaching. With best regards, Dr. Scherry Johnson Associate Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of Teacher Development
