The DirectorThe Center for the Study of Texas Politics is led by Dr. Greg Thielemann. As Director of the Center, he is responsible for the Center’s educational programs. Professor Thielemann is a fifth-generation Texan with strong ties to the state and its people. Born in Houston, he attended public schools in Spring Branch before entering The University of Texas at Austin in 1979. He graduated from UT with a BA in 1983. Upon graduation he accepted a fellowship to Rice University, where he earned a MA in 1986 and a Ph.D. in 1988. He joined the UTD faculty in 1988. Over the years, he has advised a number of campaigns for both Democrats and Republicans and has served as an elections analyst for the Dallas CBS affiliate. His thoughts and quotes have appeared in Time, The Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle, The San Antonio Light and various other publications. In addition, he has discussed Texas politics on CNN and on most local television stations. Dr. Thielemann has published numerous articles on Texas politics, Southern politics, and public policy. His articles have appeared in Judicature, The Journal of Politics, Social Science Quarterly, The American Review of Politics, the Texas Journal of Political Studies, Legislative Quarterly, the Social Science Journal, Policy Studies Review, Policy Studies Journal, and Public Administration Review.
