McDermott Scholars
UTD is home to The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program.
At UTD we tend to think big; the McDermott scholars program is but one
example. When UTD wanted to create a cadre of the very best students in
the country, the University set about creating a program to attract the
very best to UTD. This program was created with a $32 million endowment
from Margaret McDermott to honor the memory of her husband, Eugene. The
program is designed to create an environment where each year, a small
group of exceptional young scholars are given the opportunity to become
future leaders by receiving the most well-rounded educational experience
available. The Center for the Study of Texas politics plays a role in
the McDermott Scholars program by providing opportunities for these scholars
to learn about leadership and its ramifications for our civic culture.
