First-Year Leaders

Farrah Homayoun
Senior from Plano, Texas
Major: Neuroscience

Why did you decide to attend UT Dallas?
I heard about UT Dallas evolving into a great place for research opportunities. That was something that I definitely wanted to be involved with and exposed to during my college career. PLUS, it was close to my family and home.

What do you like about UT Dallas?

What I like about UT Dallas is the diversity. There are so many different people and organizations, but all of them have one goal: to make a difference by building off of one another.

List some clubs and organizations you are or have been involved in at UT Dallas.

Health Occupations of Students in America (HOSA), Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), Neuroscience Student Association (NSA), Public Health Club (PHC)

What has been your favorite/best experience at UT Dallas so far?

My best experience so far has been my involvement in neuroscience research lab under Dr. Thompson. It is amazing to hear about the possibilities of research, but to be a part of it every day is even better.

What did you learn about college life that you didn’t know before?

Something I learned about college life, which was completely unexpected, was how difficult it can be to find parking spots! The name “Road Warriors” for commuters really fits.

What do you like to do to unwind after class?

To unwind after class I usually go out for lunch with my friends. Food and good company is a great way to relax after class.

Why did you decide to become a First Year Leader (FYL)?

I decided to become a First Year Leader because I feel confident about being a Comet. I have had so many memorable moments at UTD and I look forward to helping the incoming freshman class find theirs.

Is there anything you wish you did during your freshman year that you didn’t?

During my freshman year I wish had purchased gold parking instead of green.

What advice do you have for the incoming freshman class?

Have fun, make friends and make the most out of it.
