Why did you decide to become a First Year Leader (FYL)?

Now that I’m a senior, I look back and realize that I really do make use of several resources I learned from my own UNIV 1010 course, then named RHET 1101. Things like how to get to know your professor was very important, among other life lessons. I now have the time to give back to the program and hope to help incoming freshman as much as my RHET 1101 class helped me.

Is there anything you wish you did during your freshman year that you didn’t?

I wish I had stuck with an organization and made an officer of myself that year. I’ve kind of bounced around sophomore year, and now that I have found my niche, I only wish there was more time.

What advice do you have for the incoming freshman class?

The biggest thing that I’ve learned is that life goes on. When you’re hit with some bumps, you adjust. Stressing out is good because it makes you focused, but everything in moderation is the secret to a happy life.
