Why Did We Make This Change?
In the interest of protecting your identity, UTD created a new primary identifier that replaces your Social Security number.
What Is a UTD-ID Number?
It is an 8-byte number that identifies your record in the HR/Payroll system.
Who Will Receive a UTD-ID Number?
A UTD-ID number has been created for all faculty and staff.
When Will I Have a UTD-ID Number?
It was created in early July.
How Do I Get My UTD-ID Number?
You should have received a campus e-mail listing your UTD-ID number. It will also print on your individual monthly vacation/sick leave report. Later in July, you may also obtain your UTD-ID from https://netid.utdallas.edu/.
Will The University Still Need My Social Security Number?
Yes, we need an SSN to report taxes and file certain federal forms. However, your SSN will not be your main identifier.
Where Will I Use My UTD-ID Number?
On campus, use your UTD-ID number wherever you would have used your Social Security number. For example, when cashing a check at the Bursar’s Office; when purchasing discount tickets at Info Depot or the A&H Box Office; on most campus forms.
Should I Replace My Comet Card?
Beginning August 1, 2006, new employees will receive Comet Cards with the new UTD-ID number printed on them. Starting Oct. 1, 2006, the Info Depot will accept and replace old Comet Cards with new cards displaying your UTD-ID number. However, you may choose to keep your current Comet Card. If you have lost your Comet Card and want a new card with your UTD-ID, there is a replacement fee of $25.

The new UTD-ID will be eight digits that will uniquely identify an individual.
