Fire Safety & Life Safety Inspections/ Fire Investigations

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) has been given the responsibility of inspecting all campus buildings for conformance to fire safety and life safety codes. If any violations of the codes are found, Environmental Health and Safety notifies the responsible department for correction. Environmental Health and Safety along with the UTD Police Department are responsible for investigating all fires to determine the cause of the fire and what can be done to prevent such occurrences. University staff, students, and faculty can assist our office in these areas in the following ways:

  1. Contact EHS if there are any fire safety or life safety concerns in your building.
  2. Contact EHS if there has been any kind of fire in your area that has not been investigated by UTDPD or EHS.
  3. Be conscious of the things that can create a possible fire safety or life safety situation, such as the improper use of extension cords, smoking material, improper storage of flammable material, storage of material in hallways, etc.
  4. Notify UTDPD at 2331 or EHS at 4111 if you notice anyone creating a fire or life safety hazard, such as setting fires, tampering with the fire alarm system, etc.
  5. Contact EHS if there are any questions or need for training in these areas.
