Information for friends and donors
Why Give to The UTeach Dallas Program?
The UTeach Program relies a great deal upon funding from generous and foresighted donors.
Donations support areas of the program that cannot be funded with State and Federal dollars. The major expense in this area is the Internship Program. UTeach Dallas will fund numerous student internships. Internships provide UTeach Dallas students with monetary assistance and authentic education-related experiences.
The second critical and donor-funded category is the Induction Program. Texas mandates that Universities provide continuing support to new teachers, but the State provides no funding to meet this obligation. The first five years are the proven critical period in a teacher's career with approximately half exiting the profession within this time frame. UTeach Dallas will support all of its graduates who enter the teaching profession. This support includes activities such as professional development, funding to attend professional conferences, and simply providing continuing advice.
Friends of The UTeach Dallas Program
UTeach is extremely thankful for the support it is beginning to receive. The support will permit us to provide benefits to these new teachers that would otherwise not be possible.
Several prospective donors are in discussions with the new UTeach Dallas program. Others will be listed soon as they decide on their roles in this farsighted program.
The Sid W. Richardson Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations throughout Texas in the areas of education, healthcare, human services, and the arts. The Sid W. Richardson Foundation is a long-time supporter of the UTeach concept and has provided a grant of $100,000 towards the establishment of UTeach Dallas.
The Tellabs Foundation supports educational, health, and environmental programs in communities where Tellabs employees live and work. They have a particular focus engineering, science, mathematics and technology. The Tellabs Foundation provided the first UTeach Dallas grant; $100,000 to establish an endowment.
The National Math and Science Initiative, Inc. (NMSI) is an innovative non-profit organization created to facilitate the national scale-up of programs that have a demonstrated impact on math and science education in the United States. Initial funding from NMSI comes from ExxonMobil. NMSI has awarded $2.4 million for the UTeach Dallas program.
