The UTeach Dallas program is designed to recruit and train talented math and science majors to become secondary teachers while they obtain a degree in the math or science field of their choice. As part of the training for these future secondary teachers, UTeach Dallas offers our students paid internships with local schools or non-profit agencies which are associated with the math and science community.
The UTeach Dallas interns are available for up to 20 hours a week during the fall and/or spring semesters. This allows the UTeach students to supplement their income, while gaining skills that will help them become better teachers. Therefore, these internships serve as both a recruiting tool and an educational enhancement for our students.
At the beginning of each fall, spring, and summer semester students are informed about possible internships.
Examples of common activities for interns:
- Working with individual or small groups of students
- Researching lesson ideas for particular topics
- Working on curriculum projects/ or research projects
- Assisting teacher during a lesson, but never left alone with the class
- Setting up lab materials for future lessons
- Organizing classroom/ stock room/ lab
- Teaching short lesson segments
- Preparing bulletin boards, displaying student work
Interested in being an Intern?
We have limited Intern opportunities at this time directly funded by UTeach Dallas. However, we work closely with various partners. When openings are available, they are sent out in the UTeach Dallas newsletters.
Complete the UTeach Intern Interest Form and attach a pretty grid form of your schedule clearly marking when you are available to work. Then come to an Intern meeting at the beginning of the semester in the UTeach room. Multiple meetings will be held. See the Intern Board in the UTeach room for dates/times and more information. You MUST attend a meeting to Intern for that semester. If you are a new intern or it has been more than a year since you worked for UTD in any department, bring your Driver License and Social Security card to one of these meetings so that we may complete all the necessary school and State paperwork at that time.
Please see the Intern board in the UTeach room for timesheet due dates. A full schedule will be posted once it is released from HR. Please follow the Timesheet-sample when completing your reporting-semi-monthly-and-student-revised form.
On your first day at your new position, be sure to meet with your supervisor and complete the UTeach-InternSiteSupervisor form and submit it to the UTeach Intern Coordinator.
