Vet Spotlight: Samantha Jolley
To many, Samantha "Sam" Jolley may seem like any other 24‑year‑old junior attending college. But there's one special difference that separates her from many of her classmates: she served as a medic in the United States Air Force prior to her stint at UT Dallas.
Jolley began her military career with plans to use the GI Bill to attend college. She enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school in 2008, and in 2011, she deployed to Qatar where she worked in an ER caring for American and allied soldiers. She returned to the U.S. to begin her education in 2012.
"The challenges I faced as a medic on deployment helped prepare me mentally for the challenges I'm currently facing as a student," she said.
Jolley, who is pursuing a bachelor's in biology, said the Veteran Services Center has helped with the transition back to the civilian world by providing her with a place on campus to study and connect with other service members. She looks forward to attending medical school after graduating from UT Dallas.
