Web Guide: Images and Logo Library
Images on UTD Web Pages
Because many users access the UTD website through a low bandwidth connection, it is important to make the size of a web page as small as possible. One way of doing this is to remove unneeded HTML code, but this will only go so far. Images on a web page occupy more space than the actual code and reducing file sizes of images allows users on slower connections a more enjoyable experience.
Web Services recommends optimizing your images using Adobe Fireworks. Fireworks allows you to reduce image size significantly, as much as 80% in some cases. Adobe Photoshop is another popular software package that can be used to ready images for the web.
The UTD Logo
The UT Dallas Web developers are expected to use the university logo to identify their pages' affiliation with the UT Dallas website. These images should not be altered or modified in any way. Do not resize these images to make them larger.
The logo should be placed prominently on the page, ideally in the top left-hand corner of the page. The image should always link back to the home page at http://www.utdallas.edu and have an alt tag description of "UTD Home". When clicked, it should not open the UTD Home page in a new browser. An example of the complete code for this is below.
<a href="http://www.utdallas.edu"><img src="http://www.utdallas.edu/images/logo/utdc95x40.gif" alt="UTD Home " width="95" height="40" border="0" /></a>
NOTE: To include these images on your Web page, please use one of the URLs provided below. Please do not download these images and save them to your departmental Web directory. Web browsers automatically save the image in their cache. Maintaining one location for these images on the Web server prevents browsers from having to repeatedly download them thus making your page download quicker.
