The Galerstein Women's Center

Maryam Danyali, 2009 Women's Center Scholarship Awardee

Graduated with a BS in Neuroscience and is working on her second bachelor degree in Biology. She is pursuing a dream and career in dentistry. Breaking with Iranian family traditions to pursue a professional career, she constructed a successful life in a new country and overcame many obstacles at an impressionable age, which taught her persistence, confidence and a positive attitude. She waited years for a US visa, only to arrive on the very night that her visa expired. Nonetheless, she earned her green card, taught herself English and enrolled in college all within 2 years.

She became the president of the Richland College Connections Club, which provides help to many homeless families, as well as the Community Service Coordinator for Family Gateway. She was on the dean’s list several semesters and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, participating in leadership development, graduating cum laude. Maryam says….“My fortitude can overcome life’s hardships.”

If These Walls Could Talk…they would say Maryam is inspiring a spirit of service and giving among women!

Congratulations to our 2009 Galerstein Women’s Center Scholarship recipient ~ Maryam Danyali!
