National Coming Out Day
Friday, October 9, 11am-1pm, SU Comet Café
Come by the Student Union in support of National Coming Out Day (NCO), nationally celebrated on October 11. This is a time to promote awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) issues and rights and to celebrate gay pride. NCO encourages LGBTQ people to come out to themselves, their parents, friends, co-workers, etc.

Dr. Ron Smyth will discuss the diversity of both straight and gay/lesbian speakers’ phonetic output, and his finding that ‘verbal gaydar’ is quite poor for both male and female speakers.

SAFE ZONE Dialogue: Transgender Panel

SAFE ZONE Dialogues are advanced training sessions for allies and students, staff and faculty. This Dialogue will bring a panel of transgender individuals who will discuss the stages of gender identity development, gender identity v. sexual identity and other issues affecting people who are transgender.

SAFE ZONE Ally training is consistent with SAFE ZONE’s goals of establishing a university-wide network of visible allies who are supportive, inclusive, and accepting of all people. It provides a venue for LGBTQ people, Allies and participants to express concerns, ask questions, and learn about issues affecting the LGBTQ campus and surrounding community.
