| Scaup (Big Lake, Plano) This individual has a rounded head profile and elongated body shape, suggesting a Greater Scaup, but Lesser Scaup can also show this profile prior to diving. The purple gloss on the head, the small size of the nail, the small black area at the tip of the bill, the close association with a flock of Lesser Scaup and the habitat (a shallow pond in suburban Plano) make this bird unlikely to be a Greater Scaup. |
