Target Audience:
- This course is recommended for all engineers and physicists who need
a quantitative understanding of optical imaging systems.
Overall goals of EE 6334:
- Acquire an overall understanding of the geometrical-optics limit of
Maxwell's equations, the Hamiltonian approach to
geometrical optics and the Gauss-Seidel theory of aberrations
- Acquire an understanding of the diffraction theory of aberrations
- Learn how to evaluate diffraction integrals using tools such as
Mathematica and Matlab
- Acquire an understanding of the transfer function of an optical system
in the linear, shift-invariant approximation

- The geometrical limit of Maxwell's equations
- Geometrical optics: Hamiltonian formulation
- Gauss-Seidel theory of aberrations
- Review of diffraction theory
- Diffraction theory of aberrations
