Dr. Aksu has worked on the design and development of The Migros-Koç University Retailing Center executive development and training program and was an invited lecturer in various seminars for corporate executives. His work has involved contacts with potential corporate sponsors, fundraising, curriculum development, and instruction in his areas of expertise. Some of his service activities are summarized below.    The Center has conference rooms, workshop rooms and an auditorium, all equipped with full audio/visual, computing and video conferencing facilities.

Dr. Aksu has played an active role in the Koc University committee charged with identifying collaboration possibilities between the University and MIGROS, culminating in the establishment of the Migros Retailing Management Training Center at Koç University.

Celal and the other committee members have:

  • designed and developed a customized executive development program for Migros functional executives and young managers;

  • determined and planned the structure, content, and physical and time requirements of the program;

  • negotiated the financial terms of the agreement between the parties;

  • designed executive development seminars for other individuals and organizations particulary in the retailing sector;

  • designed the organizational and financial structure of The Center, developed its vision and mission statements, determined the implementation prerequisites, and put together an action plan; and

  • served as Acting Director of The Center between December 1999 and July 2000.

      Technology behind the floor
    The Research Technology Group of NYSE is composed of econometrics and statistics Ph.D.'s who oversee the trading practices of its employees to detect any unusual volume or price changes in any listed stock.
    Volatility of NYSE Composite Index
    Dr. Celal Aksu was invited in 1992 to make a presentation to the Research Technology Group at the New York Stock Exchange in New York, New York. His presentation was titled "Modeling in the Presence of Outliers, Level Shifts, and Variance Changes".

    Dr. Aksu's invited seminar to this group on new techniques for tracking and forecasting financial time series covered:

    • Effects of outliers, level shifts and variance changes on model identification
    • Modeling in the presence of such outliers and structural changes
    • Detection of and adjustment for outliers and structural changes
    • Software capable of modeling outliers and structural changes
    for univariate and vector ARMA models.
