UTD Resonant Quantum States in Bandprof

A major innovation introduced in BandProf is the ability to directly evaluate resonant or metastable quantum states. Such states form the basis for the operation of resonant-tunneling diodes.

Knowing the energies of the resonant states, the transmission curves can be accurately calculated and displayed.

The fully numerical approach of BandProf handles biased structures for which analytic solutions are not possible, as easily as it handles the analytically soluble cases.

More complex structures are also easily treated. This is a short superlattice. The resonances cluster together into the beginings of minibands.

When the same structure is put under bias, the resonances a broken up into localized states.
