Overview

Professor Goeckner runs the Plasma Science Laboratory at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Plasma Science Laboratory is dedicated to the development of the science of industrially relevant plasmas and related tools. This Laboratory, along with the Plasma Applications Laboratory run by Professor Overzet make up the Electrical Engineering Department's plasma engineering core. Additionally, UTD has a strong presence in Space Plasmas (Professor Heelis and Professor Earle) as well as plasmas for Photonic applications (Professor Cunningham).

The University of Texas at Dallas was started as  The Graduate Research Center of the Southwest by the founders of Texas Instruments. The intent of the founders was to develop a world-class research institute in the Dallas area.   The Graduate Research Center of the Southwest was given to the State of Texas with the stipulation that it maintain the highest entrance requirements of all State Universities. UT Dallas, as the school was later renamed, admitted it's first Freshman class in the fall of 1990. It recently surpassed 14,000 students and is ranked by US News and World Reports Magazine as one of the most selective Universities in the State of Texas. In addition, Kiplinger's ranks UTD as its 34th best value in higher education.
