AUTOCODER and ASMURF: Computer Programs for Assisting and Documenting Protocol Data Coding

AUTOCODER and ASMURF are software tools specifically intended to support and automate the mapping of recall, summarization, talk-aloud, and question-answering protocol data into a semantic model of the implicit and explicit information in text clauses.

Here are the advantages of considering the use of AUTOCODER and ASMURF in your research.

AUTOCODER and ASMURF provide environments for developing and evaluating coding schemes. They are specifically designed for situations where a detailed replicable propositional analysis is required.

If you are coding an essay into a single dimension or don't need a careful propositional analysis of some summarization data, then AUTOCODER and ASMURF may not be an appropriate or desirable methodology. AUTOCODER and ASMURF are ideally suited for tasks where a scientist wants to clearly identify what propositions they are using in their coding scheme and how the text maps on to those propositions. In certain situations, AUTOCODER and ASMURF may be used to automatically code protocol data as well.

ASMURF is the latest evolution of the AUTOCODER system and is capable of representing complex propositions.
