Family

My wife, Una E. Makris, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatic Diseases at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Dallas VA Medical Center, who has focused her clinical research career on degenerative musculoskeletal conditions in older adults. Our older daughter, Thalia, is our Greek-Serbian-American Muse of Comedy, who keeps us smiling. Our younger daughter, Lydia, is determined to do everything that her big sister does and keeps us on our toes...

Running

I have been casually running on and off (well, mostly off...) over the last fifteen years. A few years ago, I decided to train for and run the Athens Classic Marathon, scheduled on 10/31/10. While training, I also ran the 20K New Haven Road Race on 9/6/10, which I finished in 1h:35m:23s. Marathon race-day was exciting and I was able to finish, but it was harder than I expected. The classic route is very challenging and the race was extremely crowded, making it difficult to sustain a comfortable pace. But I still managed to run my first Marathon in less than four hours (3h:57m:49s). Who knows, I may even want to run another one someday!
