Schumpeter's Vision
Summer 1997
Dr. Edward J. Harpham
Tuesday 6:00-10:00 PM

This class is a research seminar dedicated to exploring selected themes in the work of Joseph A. Schumpeter. The first four weeks of the semester will be spent reading, analyzing, and critically evaluating Schumpeter's major essays and books. The second four weeks will be spent identifying a topic and reviewing the secondary literature on that topic. The final four weeks of the semester will be spent writing. Each student will be expected to prepare a publishable quality essay that will be delivered at a regional or national meeting in economics, political science, or sociology next year. Primary texts to be used in the course include the following books by Schumpeter: Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy, The Theory of Economic Development, Business Cycles, A History of Economic Analysis, Essays, and The Economics and Sociology of Capitalism.
