This course is an introduction to the structure, operation and financing of the American healthcare system. It examines the major industry participants; how healthcare services are allocated and financed; the factors that influence the cost and quality of care; and opposing positions on the future of healthcare reform. Some of the key issues that will be discussed include: ¨ The roles and competitive positions of the major industry participants. ¨ How healthcare services are allocated and financed. ¨ Why US healthcare costs so much. ¨ How the cost, quality and availability of care in the US compares to other countries. ¨ What happens to those who fall through the cracks in the system. ¨ The outlook for healthcare reform. |
