Research Openings

The research in the group requires strong background in power systems, optimization, mathematics, statistics, and computational modeling.   • 07/2017: Multiple Ph.D. positions are available in DOES Lab starting from Spring 2018 or Fall 2018. Preferred Qualifications: (1) B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, statistics, or mechanical engineering; (2) strong background in mathematical optimization methods; (3) knowledge in power & energy systems, renewable integration, multidisciplinary design optimization, and big data analytics; and (4) good programming skills and familiar with one or more of the following tools: R, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, OpenDSS, GridLab-D, MATPOWER, CPLEX, GAMS, PYOMO.

  • Fall 2017: Doctoral Fellowship in Mechanical Engineering. $30,000/year. This fellowship was established for promoting doctoral education in mechanical engineering in the Jonsson School at UT Dallas.   • 03/2016: Multiple Ph.D. positions are available in DOES Lab starting from Fall 2016. Preferred Qualifications: (1) B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or statistics; (2) strong background in mathematical optimization and machine learning; and (3) knowledge in power & energy systems, renewable integration, multidisciplinary design optimization, and big data analytics.

  • 12/2015: A Postdoc position is available in DOES Lab. The successful candidate will work with colleagues at national laboratories, utilities, and ISOs on joint projects, conducting research in the area of solar and wind power forecasting and grid integration. Experience with one or several of the following would be beneficial: renewable energy forecasting, data visualization, unit commitment and economic dispatch, electricity market design, stochastic modeling, numerical weather prediction, and image processing.
