Karen M. Jarrell is the University Registrar and Director of Academic Records, The University of Texas at Dallas. She teaches graduate level courses in public affairs to Masters and PhD candidates. Karen’s expertise lies in higher education policy and practice, organizational theory and management, and enrollment management.
As a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Dallas, she has both co-authored and served as a peer reviewer for the Review of Public Personnel Administration. Dr. Jarrell’s major area of research focuses on the development and sustainability of organizations, leadership, succession planning, public personnel development, and strategic academic policy planning.
Dr. Jarrell serves the University of Texas at Dallas through a variety of traditional academic policy committees including the Core Curriculum Committee, the Council for Undergraduate Education, and the Committee for Educational Policy.
She graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (North Adams State College) earning both a BA and Ed.M. in 1994 and 1996, respectively. She completed her Ph.D. in Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2007.
Dr. Jarrell has over 20 years of experience in higher education administration. Prior to coming to The University of Texas at Dallas, she held multiple leadership roles over many years in the Registrar’s Office and worked for the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Karen’s husband Scott is a photojournalist for CBS News. She and Scott have two children: Brandon who works for a local title company and teaches preschoolers in his spare time; and Jillian who begins kindergarten in August of 2008.
