Rhythm

Rhythm is created when one or more elements of design are used repeatedly to create a feeling of organized movement. Variety is essential to keep rhythm exciting and active, and moving the viewer around the artwork. Rhythm creates a mood like music or dancing.

Rhythm:

continuity, recurrence or organized movement in space & time. Sequence is the experience of the rhythm. One space may have several different rhythms.
Repetition:
the regular or harmonious recurrence of elements, including: lines, shapes, forms or colors.
Progression:
a sequence or transition produced by increasing or decreasing one or more qualities, progression is ordered systematic change: Radiation (as in a spiral) , gradation (as in forms or colors that evolve).
Contrast:
deliberate placement of elements to create opposition by abrupt transition rather than gradual. Contrast heightens values/interest through comparison (or Tension) - resource: http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~surviarc/three.html
