General Chemistry II CHM 1312

Fall Semester 1998

The second semester of General Chemistry at U.T. Dallas covers standard topics ranging from intermolecular forces through electrochemistry. Its syllabus for the current semester (fall 1998) describes the structure of the course.

The purpose of the course is to continue your introduction to the science of Chemistry and its applications which was begun with General Chemistry I (which is this course's prerequisite). While Chem I dwelt upon the microscopic aspects of chemistry, Chem II moves up the magnitude scale to examine the macroscopic (everyday scale) consequences of these microscopic properties. Chem I emphasized structure and energetics; Chem II will add to these dynamics, the speed with which chemical reactions are accomplished.

The course Topic Schedule is keyed to the text, Brady and Holum, Chemistry: The Study of Matter and its Changes. Links on that page go to Lecture Notes which may reside on campus or off. If a link leads you out of the University, remember that you can easily return to your location in these notes with your browser's BACK key.

Homework and its solutions are available by clicking the underlined words. Similarly, Exam Solutions can be browsed.

The laboratory course, CHM 1112, is taught by Dr. Gavva and is described in its syllabus and the schedule which specifies experiments and their due dates, workshops, and the lab final.

The instructor for the fall of 1998 is Chris Parr. Dr. Parr is available to students via all of the channels below:
