Prerequisite | Chm 1315 and 1215, Honors Freshman Chemistry I and its Laboratory
Corequisite | Chm 1216, Honors Freshman Chemistry Lab II
Purposes | Honors Freshman Chemistry II continues in the vein of Honors Freshman Chemistry I, introducing the subject matter of General Chemistry with deeper insights into connectivity of Chemistry to the other sciences and mathematics and to our experience of the world. The subject matter moves from the microscopic view of HFC I, which dwells on atoms and molecules, to a macroscopic view of HFC II, which explores their ramification in the everyday world of everyday dimensions. HFC II moves easily back and forth between these scales to emphasize those ramifications. Subjects include Equations of State, Condensed Phases, Thermostatics, Chemical Dynamics, and Electrochemistry. Glimpses of their treatment in subsequent Chemistry coursework will be given along with discussions of their practical consequences both historical and future.

Evaluation | Grades will be determined by performance upon 4 exams, a final, and a term PowerPoint presentation. Dates for these are in the Topic Schedule. No makeup exams will be given, however the grade on the final may replace the lowest exam grade. Homework will be handled almost as it was in Chm 1315. It will be assigned and collected but not graded. And solutions will appear on the web and be discussed via questions in class. Exam (1, 2, 3, 4, final) and sample exam solutions (1, 1a, 1b, 2, 2a, 2b, 3, 3a, 4, 4a, Final, Final2) will also be posted to the web.
