Biography

Poras T. Balsara is a faculty member in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas. He directs research activities within the Integrated Design Engineering and Algorithmics (IDEA) Lab. and the Renewable Energy and Vehicular Technology (REVT) Lab.

He received the L.E.E. diploma in electronics from The Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI), Bombay, India in 1980 and the B.E. (electrical) degree with distinction from The University of Bombay, India in 1983. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Penn State University in 1985 and 1989, respectively. In 1989 he joined the newly created Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. His current research interests include, power electronics, design of energy efficient circuits and systems, VLSI design, and application-specific architectures. He holds patents and has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Some of the recent research has resulted in breakthrough results and founding of a startup company, Cirasys Corporation.

He has served on Technical Program committees of several conferences and has actively refereed papers for journals and conferences. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Power Electronics, Converters, Digital Control and Drives, Smart Energy. Use of FPGAs in industrial applications.

Energy Efficient Circuits and Systems, VLSI Design, Reconfigurable and Custom Computing Systems.
