Recent Presentations

Presented a variety of refereed seminars and research posters, including a seminar on growth curve modeling and another on pupillometry research; participated in an invited seminar hosted by the ASHA Convention Program Committee.

Presented a refereed seminar that provided an overview of the main findings from my Doctoral Dissertation: Waves of Change: Longitudinal growth profiling of bilingual (Spanish-English) language development. ISB8 submissions were scored by a blinded panel of two reviewers. My ISB8 submission was selected for an ISB8 Travel Grant, which facilitated my ability to travel and present at ISB8, which was held in Oslo, Norway this year.

Presented a refereed research poster dealing with the bilingual language growth of English Language Learners (ELLs) attending schools that offer structured/sheltered English immersion (SEI) programs. The language growth of ELLs in SEI programs was contrasted with the language growth of a larger population of ELLs enrolled in a variety of programs of language instruction. This research study represents the next step in modeling the bilingual language growth of ELLs, which will be followed by a study modeling ELLs’ language growth in schools that offer transitional bilingual education programs.

Presented a refereed seminar on using the SALT 2012 Research Version to solve specific research problems.

Presented an invited seminar at the third annual Forum of the Center for Children and Families, which focused on examining the impact that gender, summer vacation, and educational program have on the bilingual language growth of Spanish-speaking ELLs.
