The Distributed Systems Laboratory at the University of Texas at Dallas conducts research in distributed and networked systems. One major area of research is Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). Work centers around the following problems. 1. Wireless channel allocation strategies 2. Use of unidirectional links 3. Location management 4. Characterization of bursty traffic 5. Medium Access Control 6. Link Level Communication 7. Adaptive routing protocols and 8. Transport layer issues At the Distributed Systems Laboratory, we develop tools and conduct simulations to model the characteristics of the problems being dealt with, to suggest appropriate solutions and to analyze the effectiveness of those solutions.
