"Alexandria.
At last, Alexandria, Lady of the Dew. Bloom of White nimbus. Bosom
of radiance, wet with sky water. Core of nostalgia steeped in honey
and tears."
Naguib Mahfouz,
Miramar, 1967
The statistics of my website shows that the
vast majority of visitors are from places far away from my country;

B) Alexandria, Egypt:
(source:
en.wikipedia)
The second largest city in Egypt, Alexandria is known as "The
Pearl of the Mediterranean". Founded by Alexander the Great and
planned by his architect Dinocrates in 332-331 BC, Alexandria became
the capital of Egypt, and the center of learning in the
ancient world symbolized by Pharos, the legendary lighthouse and by
Bibliotheca Alexandrina that was once the largest library in the
world. From the 19th century Alexandria took a new role, as a focus
for Egypt's commercial and maritime expansion. Generations of
immigrants from Greece, Italy and the Levant settled here and gave
the city a cosmopolitan nature. Currently, the city has a population
of ca. 4 millions and is an important industrial center because of
its oil & gas industry.

C) Victoria College, Alexandria:
Victoria College, Alexandria, was
founded in 1902 under the impetus of the recently ennobled Evelyn
Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer. The new college was to raise the
standard of Imperial education. Among prominent subscribers to the
project were members of the prominent internationalized Jewish
minority in Egypt. The school was temporarily located in Mazarita
from 1902 to 1906. A new 17-acre grounds at Domaine de Siouf (now
the area is commonly known as Victoria district) were mostly bought
with private donations hosted the new school premises. The school
became the choice of the elite in Egypt. During World War II, many
displaced European royals and nobles were added to the student body.
The British Imperial-outpost phase of Victoria College ended
abruptly in 1956, the year that began with the dissolution of
Anglo-Egyptian cooperation and saw the Suez Crisis in October. The
entire British faculty was fired. The school was renamed "Victory
College", however, the old name is still commonly used .......and
the College continues to this day.

D) Alexandria University,
Egypt:
Alexandria
University was established in 1938 as a
satellite of Fouad I University (later became Cairo
University), becoming an independent entity in 1942.
It was known as Farouk University until it became
the University of Alexandria in 1952. It is now the
second largest university in Egypt.
Now, the university includes the following
faculties: Arts, Law, Science, Engineering,
Agriculture,Commerce, Pharmacy, Education, High
Institution of Public Health, Dentistry, Institution
of Medical Research, Institution of Higher Studies
and Research, Veterinary Medicine, Hotel and
Tourism, Agriculture (in Saba Pasha), Physical
Education for boys, Physical Education for girls,
Fine Arts.
I
obtained my B.Sc. (honors) and M.Sc., both in
electrical engineering from the
Faculty of Engineering. There, my passion for
electrical engineering and in specific
telecommunications grew up little by little. I would
have chosen the same path if my life cycle repeats!
