Resistance can be genetically engineered into plants. Spiders eat insects. Some plants produce chemicals to ward off pests. Insect predators can be used. Some microbes can be introduced into pests. Some male pests are sterilized (as they should be­-especially when they hang out in bars) and released to breed. Pheromones can be used to bait traps for insects. Growth hormones can be applied to rush pests through their life cycle to prevent breeding. Some foods are zapped with gamma radiation to kill insects, parasitic worms, and bacteria.  However, many people will not buy irradiated foods.
