m85. How can food production be increased?
New food sources are being developed. The winged-bean from New Guinea is high in protein. The green iguana can yield 10 times as much meat as cattle-and tastes like chicken-on the same amount of land. The pig-like babirosa, from Indonesia, is another likely source of meat. If you followed the first season of Survivors, you know that we can also eat grubs and other insects for protein.
Cultivating more land is problematic. Clearing rainforests has had disastrous
consequences. Much of the potentially cultivable land is in dry areas.
