Getting Started

After you're logged in to UTTC, you'll see a list of "Courses in which you are enrolled" in your customizable Student Portal. Find the "My Courses" area that looks something like the following:

Simply click on a course name to access it...

This will take you directly into our virtual classroom that's open 24x7x365!

You may also see a similar listing for "My Course Announcements", but recall that will not take you into the course itself, just to the announcement detail.

So, for example, if you happened to click on "SCE 5305: Evaluating Research in Science Education (FA06)", you would see something similar to the following:

Sample default course opening display

Notice a few things about this display. Your view may be slightly different in terms of color, shape, font, etc. depending on your system and preferences, but the 'basics' will be the same regardless of operating system or browser once you enter UTTC.

First, across the top (below the window title and internet toolbar), notice the helpful icons:

Home icon click here to go to the UTTC home page (http://www.telecampus.utsystem.edu)
Help icon click here to go to the UTTC help page (http://www.embanet.com/help/UTTC.htm)
Logout icon click here to log out of UTTC; this will return you to the login page (http://uttc.blackboard.com/)

Below the top UTTC banner, the window is comprised of two 'panes'. The Course Menu (green panel with white text links) is on the left side. The Course Content ('Announcements' shown in this example) is displayed in the larger main area to the right. You can always know where you are within the course by examining the hyperlink 'breadcrumb' path in the top of the content area:

If you do not see the Course Menu items, like 'Instructor(s)', or prefer not to see them, click on the red arrow button at the top.

click the left arrow to collapse the Course Menu
click the right arrow to expand the Course Menu

Now that you're on-board so to speak, the next few pages will give you an idea of how we'll mechanically go about delivering all of this great coursework...
