Syllabus

Another very important aspect of each course offering is to have direct and constant access to the current syllabus. The syllabus is essentially a contract between you and the instructor. As shown in this example, clicking on the 'Syllabus' link in the Course Menu will display the current details, including helpful resources, including the course schedule and checklist:

These self-explanatory items will be unique to each particular course, of course, but will follow the same structure. Having these important documents available within the course means that you will always know what's expected of you - and when! The trade-off for the asynchronous benefits of these online courses is that you must keep up with the schedule. Available and due dates are clearly noted and must be met. Only rare and documented emergencies will merit late submissions - and that only with prior notification and instructor approval. For each student's sake, it is important that the class progresses as a whole at the reasonable pace defined in the course schedule.
