Bell Telephone Labs, Murray HIll, NJ; Member, Technical Staff; I was hired to vindicate those who had decided to use polyethylene in telephone cables but I determined that the plastic in the cables - quite contrary to the designers expectations - held almost 5 times the water in the same volume of air, which water amounted to almost 5 gallons per mile of cable. This was published in "The Bell System Technical Journal," ca. 1965. HighLight > quit smoking 22 Feb. 1963

1966-71

IBM, East Fishkill, NY; Staff Engineer; This was a hodge-podge job with Product Assurance Division and involved analysis of product failures in the customer's machines and programs, which was really interesting work. I tired of snow and ice and left to return to Texas.

Texas Business Systems; Manager. Installed MSA Accounting and Payroll/Personel systems at Oklahoma Tax Commissioin(1982-1983). Wrote assembler sort routine to sort tables in COBOL which dramatically improved CICS response times as well as Batch run times; wrote generic version of IEBCOPY to copy several PDS members to other data sets. This program eliminated the need for one of the night operators. In 1983 worked at Dr Pepper in Dallas on ADABAS/Natural sales information project; this was to be moved from a DEC VAX/VMS box; this project was cancelled when I pointed out that the DEC system was better than the new one! Worked on Inventory System at Sally Beauty Co. in Denton, Texas(1984-85); this involved moving to a new building while moving from S/38 to AS400 with no 'down-time'. The move was completed in two hours with no loss of goods or interruption of records processing. From 1986 to 1990, worked at North Texas State University while working of Master of Science degree - graduated 1990 - which involved Mainframe/COBOL/ADABAS-Natural and Information Associates Student Information System. Much of this time frame involved many contract, short term jobs including Haliburton Oilwell Services, Rapp Collins(Hilton Hotel), American Wine, MCI and others including Morgan Buildings(1994-2000).
