Throughput Comparison of Robotic Flowshops Versus Robotic Openshops

Abstract:  In many applications, robotic flowshop cells are used in repetitive production of identical parts.  A robotic flowshop contains two or more robot-served machines.  The objective is to find a cyclic sequence of robot moves that minimizes the long-run average time to produce a part, or, equivalently, maximizes the throughput.  The motivation for this study is to examine the throughput advantage of robotic openshops over flowshops.
