       Biography

 

Charles J. Solcher, J.D., CPA

 

Mr. Solcher has been a member of the faculty at UT-Dallas since 1991. His primary teaching interests are taxation and business law at the graduate and undergraduate level. In addition to his teaching interests, Mr. Solcher manages the Graduate Taxation program for the School of Management. Mr. Solcher graduated from the University of Texas-Austin with an accounting degree. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas and is a licensed attorney in Texas and Oklahoma. He holds a Texas CPA certificate.

Mr. Solcher is a former employee of the Internal Revenue Service. While with the District Director's Office, Mr. Solcher held positions as Revenue Agent, Estate Tax Attorney, Group Manager and District Conferee. Mr. Solcher transferred to the Office of Chief Counsel for Internal Revenue Service where he was an Associate Chief Appeals in
Oklahoma City and Assistant Chief Appeals for the Dallas office. His last assignment was with the Regional Office of Appeals in Large Case. In this position, Mr. Solcher was involved in some of the country's largest tax cases.

Prior to teaching at The University of Texas at
Dallas, Mr. Solcher was an Adjunct Instructor at The University of Central Oklahoma. Mr. Solcher has conducted lecture sessions for the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, North Texas State University, Oklahoma State Bar Association, local chapters of the State Society of CPAs, and American College of Physicians.

Mr. Solcher taught Tax Systems and Tax Auditing at the Technical University of Saint Petersburg, Saint Petersburg, Russia, and conducted a seminar entitled Tax Structures and Tax Audit Procedures for Coke-Cola Bottlers of Eurasia, Moscow, Russia.

Mr. Solcher has published "Estate and Gift Taxation" and "Tax Aspects of Divorce and Separation."
