How
did this rag-tag bunch become the greatest hockey team in 1980? After days since
these boys won the gold for us, I am still pondering this question. These guys
were supposed to get killed. They were only a group of guys who went to Boston
University, and they were able to be all these professional team. Just truly
amazing.
It all started a couple months ago when Herb Brooks, a NCAA coach, was chosen
to become the coach of the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team. After months
of tryouts, he was able to select a group of men. The hockey team was a decided
underdog. They were rank 7th out of 12 teams in the first round. The dazed
Americans were manhandled 10-3 by the Soviet Union in a pre-Olympic game.

The team celebrate after a 3rd goal
