Before becoming the US Olympic Hockey team head coach, Herb Brooks was the head coach at University of Minnesota. His team was able to win three NCAA titles. He was becoming infamous for his stubborn personality and stern coaching.

When he was asked to become the coach for the national team, he happily accepted the offer because in he was the last man to be cut from the 1960 US Hockey team that won the first gold medal in hockey for American. That rejection still hurt him today. Finally Mr. Brooks is given another chance to prove to the world and himself that he belongs in the Olympic.

Brooks spent almost two years picking and training his team. There were hundreds of tryout camps throughout the nation. After that the team spent four grueling month training and playing exhibition games throughout Europe and North America.

Brooks realizes that the Europeans had superior skills so in order to defeat them he emphasized speed, conditioning, and discipline.

In order to unite the team, he would often challenge them verbally, and force them to work against him. He would question whether they were worthy enough to play against the Europeans

Yet at the end because of his tough love, his team was the one with the end. They won because of Herb Brooks.
