Sample Questions for Final Spring 2002

1) Plot the amplified speech spectrum on the attached dB SPL plot and determine if the gain is appropriate re: Ross and Seewald.

2) Describe the testing method most likely used with a 6 month old.

3) Describe the FM system options that you would want to have available if you were in charge of a school program so that all children could be fit optimally, ie. Some will have t-coils on their aids and some will not, some will interface with DAI and many will not, etc.

4) A child has a severe high-frequency hearing loss. Indicate the rationale based on short-term acoustic characteristics for whether this child would have difficulty discriminating "cat" from "pat."

5) For the following activity, write the possible auditory training objective. Include one of the following words: awareness, discrimination, identification, or comprehension.

Child hears words and puts an object in the bucket when he hears "pony".

6) Give examples to illustrate the concept of homeostasis.

7) You are the aural habilitation specialist in a district and must give recommendations for the design of a new school. Describe critical factors (both architectural and equipment) you would want to have included to provide maximum audibility for all children.
