LAB ASSIGNMENT #3a
THRESHOLDS FOR NARROWBAND NOISE PRESENTED IN THE SOUNDFIELD
To determine the relationship between thresholds obtained with FM tones in the soundfield, pure tones under earphones and narrowband noise in the soundfield.
Procedure:
Measure thresholds at 250, 500, 1K, 2K, and 4K Hz for the following 3 conditions on one person for one of their ears (plug the other ear):
A) FM tones in the soundfield,
B) Pure tones under earphones, and
C) Narrowband noise in the soundfield
Writeup:
1. Create a table for each type of stimuli with the threshold values for each person in your group for each condition with frequency across the top and participant on the side. For each type of stimuli determine the MEDIAN threshold value for each frequency for your lab group (this data will be the same for each person in the group, but each person must create the table).
2. Compare the median threshold values obtained for conditions A and B.
Do they agree? Why or why not? Were you surprised?
3. Compare the median threshold values obtained conditions B and C.
Do they agree? Why or why not? Were you surprised?
4. Compare the median threshold values obtained for A and C.
Do they agree? Why or why not? Were you surprised?
