LAB ASSIGNMENT #4
ELECTROACOUSTIC MEASUREMENTS
Purpose:
To perform ANSI recommended measurements on a hearing aid via manual and automated procedures.
Case:
Select a hearing aid to "run" that has compression.
Procedure:
For the hearing aid, perform the ANSI 33.22 (96) electroacoustic measurements (listed below) in the following ways:
1. Set up each condition manually, i.e. do not use the automated runs which Fonix 6500 is capable of, and perform the necessary measurements to complete the form in the handout packet. You do not need to determine frequency range. There will be no print outs for this part.
2. Then run the aid with the appropriate automatic run using the correct battery pill and cut the output apart and paste on paper and label accordingly. You should have graphs for OSPL 90, frequency response, and I/O curves. Paste ALL of the output on the paper. Compare the values for the manual and automatic runs for selected measures.
Writeup:
1. For each aid show the values for the ANSI measurements obtained for the manual, automatic, and from manufacturers' specs on the form provided in the handout packet. Indicate the tolerance criteria and whether or not each measurement is within tolerance. Measurements: Max OSPL90, HFA OSPL90, HFA FOG, RTG, FREQ RANGE, EIN, HD at 500, 800, 1600 Hz.
2. If differences exist across measurements for a given aid, offer some explanation. Make an overall statement regarding the functioning of each aid.
