LAB ASSIGNMENT #5

EARMOLD ACOUSTICS

Purpose:

To electroacoustically evaluate acoustic changes which occur with earmold modifications.

Case:

Mr. Jones has a moderate hearing loss above 1000 Hz while Mr. Brown has a moderate hearing loss below 1000 Hz. Choose two different earmolds for use with the same aid that will maximize the gain needed for each patient.

Procedure:

Use a BTE aid without compression. Make note of any settings you choose. Deliver a 60 dB SPL sweep frequency tone for all comparisons. Using the HA-1 coupler and Fun-Tack, select an earmold for each patient to demonstrate earmold acoustic effects to enhance high frequencies and to enhance low frequencies.

Writeup:

1. Organize your results according to the two comparisons. For each one show the printout and label them completely, including: settings on the aid, the type of mold used, the modification made, etc.

2. Write a paragraph summary for each indicating whether or not you observed the "textbook" effects and why.
