Being a Graduate student at The University of Texas at Dallas, I would like to share a few things about college life and what to expect as an International Graduate student living on campus. It is always hard to adjust when you come to a completely new and different country. You meet people with different backgrounds, customs and religions. It takes time but after a while you get used to it.

Here are some important tips I want to share. Think of this as my welcome gift to the newcomers. Kind of like those gift baskets you receive when being a guest at someones wedding.

On Campus Life

Student housing is provided on campus with several affordable living choices for those who appreciate the advantage of being able to walk from their residence to class. All housing is reserved for UT Dallas students and offers a variety of floor plans and prices. Once you own an apartment you may need to have the following things to make your life much easier.

You usually get the beds, dressers and computer desks. You definitely need some storage boxes for the extra items.Make sure they are thin enough to fit under you bed. If not, you can always turn the beds into bunk beds so you and your roommate have more room for everything else.

Laptop is one of the necessary thing. If you have your own, then bring it. Sharing a computer is tough and it can cause some problems. If you can get a new one, there are plenty of websites that sell used laptop computers for cheap!

Make sure not to bring anything really valuable to school. I have heard stories of students things being stolen right out of their dorm room. Make sure to keep those diamond rings at home.

Remember to bring warm jackets and coats for those frigid days when you are walking around campus. North Face has a lot of great jackets for winter, I have even seen some of their longer womens coats on girls around campus. They are sure to keep you warm.

Here are some campus clubs to check out:

Indian Student Association at UTD
Chess Club
Association of Internet Technology Professionals
UT Dallas Radio

Joining clubs on campus is one of the best ways to make friends and meet new people.

Its not about what you got, Its about what you make up with what you got.!!
