About Me
The Walvoord (Walvoort) family came to the United States from the Netherlands (Aalten, Winterswijk, and Lichtenvoorde) in the mid ninteenth century. Four brothers settled in Wisconsin, and later Michigan, siring the four branches of the Walvoords in America. My branch moved to Nebraska from Wisconsin before coming to Texas. The Walvoord family prospered in America, becoming lawyers, judges, politicians, merchants, doctors, educators, engineers, and farmers.
I was born in 1959 and grew up in Garland, Texas. My parents grew up on farms in Frisco and Garland. I have two older brothers. Keith lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Kyle lives in Longview in East Texas. I now live in Plano, but have lived at times in Austin, Denton, Euless, and Abilene, Texas. I have traveled extensively throughout the state and so love Texas that I expect I'll never live anywhere else.
I am a librarian and am currently the Assistant Head of Reference Services in the McDermott Library at the University of Texas at Dallas. I have been with the University for nine years now and was previously the business librarian at the Abilene Public Library. Before that I was a genealogy specialist with the Irving Public Library.
Before becoming a librarian I went to school and worked many different jobs, including being a sheep shearer, waiter, printer, mail room clerk, and lawn mower.
I have a wife (Chantal), a daughter (Annabelle), two adopted cats (Boodica and Sam), a mortgage, and a pickup truck.
